March 2019 Lowband Contest Results

Storm Freya impacted on this event, with low activity and fewer entries than last year. A couple of hardy portables braved the wind and rain to create some interest for other entrants.

A few near continentals were worked on 1.3GHz by stations in the southeast of England, but otherwise DX was quite limited.

The Combe Gibberlets group (M0HNA/P) won 1.3GHz by a large margi, with Denis G3UVR in second place, and Keith G4KIY in third. Best DX reported was a good aircraft scatter contact between GM8IEM in northern Scotland and G4KCT in York, at a distance of 548km. Nick G0HIK/P was the leading low power station.

2300MHz continues to be a Cinderella band, with just the one QSO reported despite 1000 points being on offer to the band leader.

On 2320MHz Denis G3UVR put in a strong performance to push the Combe Gibberlets into second place. G3UVR worked G3XDY for the best DX on this band at 324km. Nick G0HIK/P won the low power section on this band too.

M0HNA/P are in the top spot on 3.4GHz with David M0GHZ in the runner up spot. The poor conditions and activity limited the best DX to 153km between M0HNA/P and G3XDY.

The Combe Gibberlets group were overall winners, with Denis G3UVR  in overall runner-up position and leading fixed station.

Certificates go to M0HNA/P as overall winner, to G3UVR as runner-up and to the following band leaders, runners-up and leading fixed and low power stations.

1.3GHz   M0HNA/P, G3UVR,  G0HIK/P

2.30GHz   M0HNA/P

2.32GHz  G3UVR, M0HNA/P, G0HIK/P

3.4GHz   M0HNA/P, M0GHZ

Normalised scores will be included in the overall championship table which will be published when the results of the next low band contest are available.
